Mexicali owes its name to the mixing of the words and the territories of México and California. 

And is located immediately across the border from Calexico in California. 

Visitors can expect a very hot climate during the summer months (June-August), with average daily high temperatures above 98°F (37°C) to peaks of even 120°F (48°C) in the hottest days. 

The city has grown from a small border town to a modern city with one of the highest living standards in Mexico.  

It is recognized in Mexico for its sizable investment in education and low unemployment.
